The President met at the White House Wednesday afternoon with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. The leaders discussed ways to increase tourism and trade between the two countries, which they agreed are critical for the economies of the U.S. and Canada.

“So we’re going to improve our infrastructure, we’re going to introduce new technologies, we’re going to improve cargo and security screening, all designed to make it easier for our companies to do business and create jobs,” said Obama.

Harper added, “Trusted travelers should cross the border more quickly. The key that locks the door against terrorists also opens a wider gate to cross border trade and travel.”

The President says an estimated $1 billion of merchandise crosses our shared border each day.
